I haven't done anything, but I'm working on recovering right now. The scan shows a lot of files—about 4% scanned with 300k already processed.

The file layout changed unexpectedly. I faced a comparable issue with another drive before it failed.

I don’t believe that at all—the drive isn’t even six months old, so it’s likely an issue with the software.

It was the same issue with my HDD two years ago, but it's working just fine now. Remember to keep everything backed up regularly.

Collect all files into a single location without folders, and I'll quit.

Recovering data isn’t easy. Photos and clips are recoverable, yet game files remain encrypted and signed. Once you try to restore them, Steam will likely ask for verification and may suggest re-downloading. What’s your internet speed? It might be better to simply re-download instead. I don’t know why your files disappeared completely—my music library vanished after a backup and OS reset. Now I keep at least three backup drives just in case.

Approximately 400kb/s, meaning more than 25 days of continuous downloads... it wasn't active at all, just Witcher 3 running for over 20 hours.
