What’s currently on your board? The 9900K is still expensive relative to its performance, especially when compared to other options. Even the 5600 from AMD offers better value. If you can afford a 9900K for $200 and sell your existing CPU, it might be a decent temporary solution. Otherwise, consider the 5600 or a 12600K with your existing RAM.
I own an i5 8400 or might consider a 9700k. It should be possible to find one around $100.
