CPU: 12700k
GPU: 2060 Super (Removed)
MOBO: MSI B760 Tomahawk w/WIFI
Storage: Samsung 990 NVMe 2 TB
RAM:
Kingston Fury Beast 64GB (2x32GB) 6000MT/s DDR5 CL30
PSU: Thermaltake 850W Gold
I’m experiencing a problem where my computer doesn’t start up properly. I briefly see the red CPU indicator before it shuts off, then the yellow DRAM light appears and nothing else happens. The CPU and case fans remain inactive.

I’ve experimented with various RAM configurations—single, double, 2/4, 1/3, 2, 1—and none made a difference. I removed the MOBO from the case to check for a short circuit, then reset the CMOS jumper (though I was hesitant to remove the battery). After taking out the RAM entirely, I tried booting again and still got the same red CPU flash followed by the yellow DRAM light.

I’m unsure what’s causing this issue. My two guesses are that the RAM speed exceeds the MOBO’s supported rate (6000 MHz vs 4800 MHz for the processor) or that the CMOS shorting didn’t resolve the problem, or that I have faulty MOBO/RAM.

Appreciate any advice you can offer.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer! Rams should be filling slots A2 and B2. If you're using one stick of RAM, choose slot A2. Have you tried reseating the processor? Talking about the processor's cooling, how are you managing it?

Unfortunately, the board lacks a BIOS Flash button, which might mean your BIOS is corrupted. You won't be able to revive it without a CH341A BIOS programmer toolkit, unless you're certain it's the BIOS issue.

I'm at my end about this situation.
If RAM and processor function on another working motherboard, you should return it for repair.

I'm using a Noctua NH-DL12L air cooler and haven't tried reseating the processor yet. I'm considering a DDR4 system for testing the CPU, but don't have a DDR5 one available. I'll attempt to reseat the CPU and check if it improves performance.

I also attempted to reinstall the processor (RAM in slots 2/4). The same problem occurred again.
I plan to use a different processor now.

The processor boots on a separate MOBO with different RAM. I'm pretty sure it's either the RAM or MOBO that's messed up at this point. It's also possible that the PSU fried one or both of them.

Swapping PSU and MOBO finally got the system running. Thanks.
