Hello. I got the XFX Speedster MERC319 RX 6950XT recently for my setup. Performance wasn’t up to expectations at first, but after updating DDU and reinstalling drivers, things seem better. I’m experiencing overheating when the GPU is under heavy use—temperatures reaching around 110°C and current near 98°C according to AMD’s interface. The fans are still working, but it feels like there might be a space issue since only about an inch separates the GPU from the power supply. I ran a stress test and a benchmark with the side panel off, and the thermal readings dropped by roughly 10 degrees. I’m still within Amazon’s return period for the GPU, so I’m weighing whether to return it or try again. My main concern is if there’s a clearance problem given the tight fit. Are these thermal readings typical?

Sound pretty normal. High-end hardware these days runs hot. If you got temps to drop 10 C with the side panel off, the card is fine, but you should look at case ventilation.

110c isn't typical. Temperatures above 70-80°C over time can harm your GPU. If AMD's max temperature is 98°C, that raises my concerns. Prolonged high temps will cause throttling or shutdown. It would be better to request a replacement or return.

Main temperatures are stable, but junction readings differ significantly.

From what we’ve talked about so far, I think I’ll bring up the GPU again. It’s disappointing because the sale is over, but I don’t really need a replacement right now—I already have a 3060 Ti and it works just fine.

Previously, one individual confirmed the temperatures were typical while another expressed uncertainty about the meaning of a hotspot temperature.

It seems the concern is about the safety of using 110°C at the junction and around 100°C under load regularly. I’m worried it might be too extreme for the GPU over time. Personally, I’m not used to high-end gear, so my expectations might be off. I don’t want the investment to fail or the device to stop working unexpectedly. I still have time before the return period starts, so it’s not urgent. I just need confidence that the product is solid and durable.

I wanted to share a late update. Ultimately, I returned the GPU because of other problems like minor interference with my USB 3 header. While uninstalling it for return, I noticed I hadn't taken off the plastic cover from the backplate. I didn't check my thermal pads without it, but I'm confident removing the plastic would raise my temps slightly. Just a note for myself: always confirm the GPU fits and that the plastic is fully removed before testing thermals.
