I recently purchased a prepaid Xbox Game Pass membership for PC, but playing the games has been extremely difficult. Here’s a summary of the issues I’ve encountered:

- Spoiler Donut County: "Windows can't reach the device or file. You might lack the right access rights."
- Descenders: Leads me to the MS Store to install Gaming Services, which is already present.
- Unto the End: "Windows can't access the device or file. Permissions may be insufficient."
- Levelhead: Opens and closes with a "Check your account" message (code 0x803F8001).
- The Long Dark: Starts, Xbox login appears briefly, then freezes at Disclaimer.
- Among Us: Repeats the same error.
- Ape Out: Consistent access denial.
- Bridge Constructor Portal: Opens and immediately closes.
- Carto: Similar access issues.
- Forager: Opens and closes without saving progress.
- Overcooked: Displays a Microsoft Store installer, then access denial.
- Fallout 76: Same permission message.
- C:/ Cities: Skylines: Play button remains inactive.
- Forager: Closes after opening.
- Minecraft Dungeons: Access denied despite being installed.
- DOOM Eternal: Goes to MS Store but doesn’t launch properly.
- No Man's Sky: Denied access regardless of installation.
- Halo MCC: Installs and redirects to MS Store, still blocked.
- DOOM 64: Stuck in "Loading" with no Xbox login.
- Gato Roboto: Leads to MS Store again.
- EA Play Games: Experiences similar problems; the desktop app is unusable.
- Battlefield 4: Runs as bf4.exe in Task Manager but isn’t visible.
- Burnout Paradise: Error about missing Core/Activation.dll.
- Crysis: Displays a black window (640x480) and closes.
- General: Only 0% of games work.

I’ve tried several fixes—System File Check, CHKDSK, reinstalling Windows, resetting permissions, and even uninstalling/reinstalling games—but nothing resolves the issue. My games are saved on B:/ (Seagate ST2000DM008, 2TB). I’ve checked my specs and documentation.

Could you assist? I’ve also tried contacting Microsoft support, but it’s been frustrating. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Save any crucial documents before proceeding, then generate an installation disk and perform a complete setup. The upgrade process for my PC is similar to simply refreshing the system—it won’t resolve the issues, it will only add more complications.

You can reinstall Windows while keeping your personal folders intact. Simply restore those folders after the installation completes.

Sure, I can help with that. Just let me know which games you'd like removed from the B drive.

Most of the files on the B:/ drive are video clips that I’m working with right now (avoid dealing with RAW 4K stuff, okay?)

Would you like me to perform a cloud backup of your files? I can check the size of your user files and see how much free space remains on the B: drive.

Yes, it works if you use a non-reserved drive letter (A or B).

Wait- it is? I wish I would've known that now that I'm neck-deep in linked files. I ended up reinstalling Windows on my computer and they seem to be working. Thankfully, my B drive didn't need to be wiped which is where most of my files were. A little annoying that for most of my programs, while the main app is in the B drive, the launcher was in AppData so I've had to reinstall everything, even though the files are still there.
