Hey everyone, my MSI GE63 8RF-099CA laptop (Windows 10 Home OEM) was running sluggish after the Windows 10 update 1803. I tried a clean install, but it ended up messy. Here’s what I did: I created a USB drive using the Windows Media Creation Tool from another laptop (MSI GE62 with Windows 10 Home OEM, update 1803). After booting the USB, I installed Windows 10 Home without issues until I tried connecting to a network. The Wi-Fi adapter didn’t appear, so I switched to an Ethernet cable and completed the installation. I never logged in with my Microsoft account.

The next issue arose when I attempted to install the latest Nvidia graphics driver. It reported incompatibility with the current Windows version, even after using the driver package and GeForce Experience. The same problem appeared with the Nahimic sound app, which always comes bundled with MSI laptops.

I then tried updating the driver manually via Device Manager, which updated some PCI settings but kept showing the same error. It also indicated no Chipset 300 family drivers were installed, unlike what’s usually expected. When updating the Intel graphics through Device Manager, it said the best driver was installed—though I’d installed it via Intel Driver Update Utility.

I couldn’t install the graphics driver or any other drivers, and the WLAN driver update only worked for Ethernet. I suspect there’s an issue with the PCI and chipset compatibility between the software and hardware.

My questions: Is there a way to restore the MSI factory image? Since I formatted the SSD and HDD during the clean install, how can I use MSI Recovery to recover it?

The factory image/recovery partition was stored on your SSD or HDD. The drive has been formatted, preventing future restoration to the original image. Laptop drivers are available at the provided link. Please download the necessary drivers, excluding VGA ones. Obtain the most recent Intel/NVidia drivers from the official sources. Begin with chipset and Intel Management Engine drivers, followed by storage drivers, then LAN/WAN drivers. Once that sequence is complete, proceed with the remaining drivers in order. If issues persist, reach out to MSI Support.

Recovery partitions are frequently missing a drive letter, which means you might not have noticed it. They could also have been formatted incorrectly during the fresh installation. A deeper inspection of the disk in a PE environment might help you retrieve the recovery image and resolve the issue.

You started with the chipset drivers, everything worked smoothly. Then you attempted to install Intel Management Engine and encountered an error stating the platform isn’t supported.
