I'm curious about how many individuals actually acknowledged it.

Hey, no problem. I’m not sure how many I need since most pre-built units and laptops already include Windows.

I upgraded my gaming PC by purchasing a kit that included a small USB drive and a key.

You asked about how MS products are obtained. Most people purchase them directly from the company or through authorized resellers. Since MS was in a strong financial position recently, it’s reasonable to assume customers are paying for their licenses. Those who buy pre-assembled systems indirectly support legitimate sales. There may be some piracy, but I believe system integrators don’t engage in widespread illegal activity—just using lower-quality parts and adding unnecessary software. Most users likely get pre-built units, both laptops and desktops. The small group of DIY enthusiasts on this forum represents a tiny portion of the overall market. I acquired one key through an MS student program from a website and another from a university bookstore, each around $40. I’m told genuine keys can be purchased for about $20, possibly matching what OEMs charge. I haven’t tried buying keys myself since my system still functions.

I've covered all my different Windows updates and Office versions over the years, except directly from Microsoft. The same applies to my various paid plans—everything is purchased, only when I reinstall after a drive wipe or a clean Windows setup, which is already paid, just a new download.

I'm running a ten-year-old pre-build with Windows 7. That should be fine.
