I understand your request isn’t perfect, but I’m here to check if it’s feasible. I’ve been using an Oculus Quest 2 connected via WiFi to my PC and have built a portable VR setup myself. It uses a mini-ITX board with ASRock B450 Fatal1ty ITX, 2700X, and an EVGA 1060 6G—planned for an upgrade when prices improve. It’s not the most powerful configuration, but it works well enough for low-quality games like HL:Alyx (low quality), BeatSaber, and FO4:VR at a reasonable level. I prefer having the built-in WiFi instead of tethering, but I wanted better performance without USB cables.
I replaced the Intel 3168 with an AX200, expecting improved performance, but results were disappointing. The Wi-Fi Direct feature seemed to be the bottleneck, possibly due to Windows HotSpot’s limitations (around 250-300Mb/s). I’ve tried adjusting settings and even switched to soft-AP, but Microsoft has consistently rejected it for newer cards. Linux was an option, though not supported by Quest 2 or compatible with Wine.
I’m hoping for a solution now—maybe a new PoE injector or alternative method—but I’m unsure if there’s a straightforward fix. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Windows 10 initially restricts 5GHz hotspots. Connect your mobile phone first, then the system recognizes the speed is permitted. Once connected, disconnect and the maximum speeds will activate. Your connection instantly improves from 195mbps to 866mps!
