You and your wife face the same issue, and a quick search reveals it's a fairly widespread problem with no obvious fix. On Windows, capturing screens often fails, resulting in blurry images—like the example you shared. Turning off HDR helps, but the issue persists across platforms such as Discord. It seems this has been a longstanding concern, with discussions about it dating back at least a year or more. The real question is why such problems linger so long; it's not just a rare function, but something that keeps appearing in posts. It’s surprising how long this has been an issue.

Always smooth for me—run HDR nonstop. My OBS setup is set up for HDR recording.

Sure, OBS functions properly. The main issue is Windows doesn’t automatically reduce to SDR for apps without native HDR support. It’s really annoying because I only need screenshots occasionally and I can’t rely on native features anymore. Even with AutoHDR enabled, games without native support still don’t work well.

I also take screenshots for reference. In games I rely on GameBar because it captures both an HDR .jxr file and a tonemapped PNG. The PNGs aren't ideal—they look too dark—but they work. On the desktop, there aren't many good alternatives. If necessary, I can quickly disable HDR using a key combination.
