Hey, I understand what you're going through. After installing Windows again, the updates weren't as smooth as expected. You're facing errors during the update process and are trying to find Service Pack 1. The Microsoft link you saw is no longer valid. Since you're not interested in updates but need SP1 for important fixes, here are some tips: check your system details, download the latest SP1 from the official Microsoft website, or use a trusted third-party source if needed. If you need help navigating the steps, just let me know!

Avoid Windows 7—it poses risks, lacks updates, and isn’t stable compared to newer versions. You have three options: Win8/.1, Win10, or Win11. All official support has ended for Windows 7, so you must rely on unofficial sources now.

I own two Windows 7 machines that haven’t been updated since 2013 and 2015. They performed perfectly until one stopped working after eight years. For me, the absence of support or whatever Microsoft chose for Windows 7 doesn’t matter as long as I can receive updates. Since I don’t have drivers for my older PC running Windows 10, I’m having to find a workaround.

I noticed a chance that Microsoft might release something similar. I saved all the manual update installation files—those that let you install updates yourself. I’ve got every update available, including SP1.

I’m not sure what updates are necessary, but for playing games I think SP1 is required. Thanks for any advice!

From support, the two-year-old version is no longer receiving assistance after five years of being active for ten years. It makes sense.

Are you using a SP1 32-bit or 64-bit version?

Microsoft has ceased releasing updates for Windows 7. Unless your organization has substantial funds to pay Microsoft large sums annually for specialized support that will soon end, you may not be able to obtain any updates legally. I won’t support illegal actions to get updates, as they often lead to security risks—especially since Windows 7 is prone to many known issues. I respect your choice to use Windows 7, even though I don’t agree with it. While I understand your reasons, I believe you have the right to decide what runs on your system. Windows 10 has been available for five years and offers stability; in my experience, it’s less likely to cause problems during an upgrade. If privacy is a concern, consider switching to a Linux distribution that aligns with your preferences. At this stage, Windows 7 offers limited privacy due to its many vulnerabilities, which Microsoft no longer supports.
