I’m completely new to dual-booting and decided to try it with a basic system. I added an old SSD next to the existing Windows 10 drive, used the WinXP CD, and followed the standard setup steps. After installation, both systems appeared correctly, and I could access my files from XP. When I restarted, I expected a boot menu but instead got XP again. I removed the Windows 10 drive from XP, moved it to the top of the boot order, and even tried disconnecting the XP drive physically. Still, the PC only recognized XP. Now I’m stuck—my Win10 installation seems broken, and I’m unsure if it can be fixed. How should I proceed to make it work?

The Windows XP boot loader won’t identify your Windows 10 system because it doesn’t exist at that point in time. It usually replaces any existing boot loader with its own.

It's frustrating, isn't it? I thought I chose the correct installation medium for XP, but it ended up on my Win10 drive. I'm going to reinstall and make sure to disconnect the other drive during each Windows setup. Thanks.

To run dual boot effectively, start with XP and then add Windows 10. After launching Windows 10, modify the bootloader to display both operating systems, allowing you to choose during startup.
