There seems to be a misunderstanding. I mentioned limitations around 5GHz speeds, but the result you’re seeing is actually faster than what’s typically expected at that frequency.
I don't own any router that had dual band before. After the upgrade, I managed to get a 5GHz Wi-Fi connection. The old 2.4GHz router I had before worked fine for a while. I tried changing the SSID to connect, but it didn't help anymore. This issue started right away when I changed the default name. I've been trying to fix it for a while now, but it's still not working.
I'll adjust it to 20mhz, but all available channels automatically switch to that frequency even though I set up support for 20/40 and 80mhz. I'm unsure if manually selecting a channel is necessary because the auto mode consistently picks DFS channels without restrictions. It seems similar to turning off and then back on Wi-Fi in Windows 10. I might be able to capture some video evidence to show exactly what's happening. Actually, I can't... But the outcome is the same as disabling and re-enabling Wi-Fi in Windows 10.
You should try connecting to Wi-Fi with full capacity and then touch your dongle. If it feels warm, that’s likely the issue. I’ve been looking for a dongle for months and spent a lot of money without finding a fix. The best option is to use a PCIe Wi-Fi adapter instead of a dongle—only if you’re dealing with heat problems. If the problem persists, switch to a PCIe adapter regardless.
It was confirmed upon returning from school that the problem isn't due to heat. I'm attempting to connect to the new router which offers 5GHz Wi-Fi, while the previous one is outdated and only used for phone connectivity. It seems the device can switch between the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands since I've adjusted the settings. Currently, I'm unable to connect to the 5GHz network at all. I'm beginning to suspect the issue lies with me, not the router. Edit: My adapter on a laptop shows the same behavior.
The issue involves a 5GHz Wi-Fi connection that won’t stay connected, with the adapter turning off and on repeatedly. This happens whenever it’s used on your dad’s laptop.
