The "W" key becomes unresponsive when holding Ctrl.
I'm experiencing a strange problem with my Razer Ornata Chroma keyboard. When playing games that require holding down Ctrl and W, like crouching and walking, it works initially but fails immediately if I stop pressing W. A, S, and D function normally, while W doesn't register at all. I don't have sticky keys or filter keys enabled, and even after reinstalling drivers it didn't fix the issue. I've tried using another keyboard, but the problem remains. Any suggestions for resolving this?
Your current knowledge points to a key rollover problem. This cannot be resolved with any software because it's built into the KB design itself. More details: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Key_rollover. Cheap membrane KBs often face this issue. The only solution is a new KB, ideally mechanical with N-key rollover, so all keys respond correctly even when pressed simultaneously. For example, my Corsair Strafe RGB with Cherry MX Silent switches has N-key rollover. My partner's KB, Corsair Strafe RGB Mk.II with Cherry MX Silent switches, also supports it. Similarly, my new Corsair K100 RGB with Corsair OPX switches works this way.
I used a different keyboard. Although it was inexpensive, it still had the same problem with another model where only the W key was affected.
Unless you test with KB that has verified n-key rollover, rollover problems cannot be excluded. Cheap options may have rollover issues; some models offer 16-key rollover, while others might only support 8-key rollover. Expensive models typically feature n-key rollover.
With the same worry, I saw this message.
