Mobo: Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 (rev. 5.0)
GPU: MSI GeForce RTX 2080 Ti VENTUS GP
CPU: amd fx-6300
RAM: kingston 3 x 8gb
PSU: Corair RM750e
OS: Windows 11
Two monitors at 1080p 60hz
Web Browser: Firefox
Nividia driver version: 5436.33
I'm experiencing stuttering and lag on my second monitor while playing games on the main one. This seems to have begun after updating to Windows 11, though I'm not entirely sure. It was a problem before when using an AMD graphics card and an older PSU, but I've upgraded those now and it still happens.
The issue disappears if I click on the monitor displaying the video.
I've tried several solutions without success:
- Turning off browser hardware acceleration
- Adjusting monitor settings
- Disabling v-sync in games
- Switching to full screen or reducing border size
- Using Nvidia profile inspector and enabling multi-display performance mode
- Disabling Windows transparency (it helped at first but then slowed things down)
- Turning off game mode in Windows
I might have missed something else, but nothing has resolved the problem. I never faced this issue with Windows 7 or 10. If you have any tips, please share!
Are there any models and makes of monitors available?
Do these monitors come with specific drivers accessible through the relevant manufacturer's online platform?
If yes, you can download, install, and set up the drivers yourself directly from the manufacturer's site.
No third-party tools or installers are needed.
Also, confirm that the website you're using is genuinely the manufacturer's official site.
Even if the manufacturer's name appears in the URL, it doesn't guarantee the page is authentic.
Access the task manager via the Performance section and observe CPU and GPU usage. These metrics suggest insufficient available resources for running video on a second monitor.
From what I understand, the monitors are AOC E2770SH and AOC E2752VQ. I tried to install a driver for both but it didn’t help. I believe these are the correct model numbers, but if there’s a reliable way to confirm, please let me know.
I just ran the game and video at the same time whilst watching the performance tab and it would seem like you are right, The CPU hovers around 85% utilization and will jump to %100 and the video will start lagging/stuttering. The lag is most prominent when in a loading screen, it also occurs sporadically outside of that circumstance though.
GPU utilization hovers around %30-40, i plan to upgrade the CPU, ram and motherboard in the near future so if this is the cause then i can put up with it until then.
However if there is a temporary work around im unaware of i would love to know, cheers.
I also just tested on another less intensive game and the stuttering seems to not happen, CPU utilization hovers at %50-60. The game that is giving me trouble if it matters is Elder Scrolls Online and the less intensive game for testing was Terraria. I also thought i would mention that i haven't played ESO prior to updating to windows 11 so it could possibly be game specific, but again im unsure of that.
Just keep monitoring the performance for a while—you might uncover additional related factors. Consider shutting down any background processes that are no longer necessary and can be turned off. Always check that all crucial data is safely backed up away from your current computer. It seems a 750 watt power supply should suffice, but it’s not harmful to run some calculators and plan for a higher-quality PSU with greater capacity. FYI:
I've been checking performance and haven't found much, but I did notice Firefox automatically switching to efficiency mode. Turning it off helped slightly, though the issue remains. The PSU is brand new from last week and is within power recommendations for my system. If anyone has additional tips or comments, please share. Thanks.
I resolved the issue—it turns out the problem was with the game, not my computer. There was a bug causing lag on systems with 6-core CPUs, and my concerns came from that. SOLVED! Thanks for your support everyone, cheers. <3
