I own an Alienware 17 R5. I swapped out my motherboard back in February 2022 since my Nvidia graphics card stopped working. The 970 Evo Plus was located in the horizontal NVMe SSD compartment and failed in January 2023. After that, the NVMe drive became unallocated space and couldn't be formatted, so I upgraded to a 980 Pro, which also went into the same horizontal slot. Around October 2023 it turned out to be unallocated again, but I reformatted it and kept using it. I took my laptop to a local Dell service center in my area. They inspected the motherboard and discovered four burnt MOSFET chips near the horizontal NVMe drive. You can view the image here: https://imgur.com/a/Tvi5WE5. It seems the motherboard has a defect, with power regulation issues affecting those four chips. Over time they degraded, impacting both the 970 Evo Plus and the newly installed 980 Pro. The 980 Pro is now in the vertical NVMe slot. The chips near that slot appear fine and unaffected. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hZzxD6V...U9D12f8Lg/ shows the schematic diagram for my laptop. There are three PDFs and two BRD files; the BRD files work with BoardView software. You'll need to install that program and open the files. Could someone familiar with schematic diagrams confirm whether only the horizontal NVMe slot uses those four burnt MOSFET chips, while the vertical slot remains unaffected? Would it be possible for the 980 Pro to behave erratically if placed in the vertical slot instead?
