Networking is a hassle. The IP address I have is 192.168.xx.xxx, but Minecraft uses a different port. According to portchecktool.com and whatismyipadress.com, it should be 162.255.xx.xxx. Should I switch to that for forwarding? What’s going on? This is confusing, especially for high school networking class.

They both use 25565, which matches the server requirements. The tp link app suggests using 1-65535 for international and xx-xx or xx for external, but that’s just guidance—it doesn’t change the actual port number you need.

My TP-Link router is listed under Forwarding and Virtual Servers. Service port and internal port match. IP address 25565 assigned.

You don't need to make any changes on the main modem settings. Just configure the forwarding rules in the app to use the IP 192.168.xx.xxx on port 25565.

Your Minecraft server is listening on port 25565 on your PC, and others can connect via the same port on your router. That’s correct. The number 65535 is the highest possible port for a 16-bit unsigned address, so it’s safe to use. Could you clarify what you meant by "internal"? A screenshot would make it easier to understand.

I understand the issue. I have a dual nat setup, a tplink deco linked to my ISP router. It seems that connection causes problems.

The local IP should match the computer hosting the Mc server. As long as you meet that and port 25565 is accessible, you're all set. Avoid assigning a fixed LAN IP unless you want it to shift with each reboot.

It's the issue itself that really stands out. Probably the same reason Plex didn't function on my network.
