I started with Manjaro Mate because it sounded like a Linux fix, even though it wasn’t. I decided to install KDE Plasma first so I could boot into it or Mate. The Manjaoes site mentioned possible problems, but I wanted to get KDE exactly how I liked it. After installing Mate, I tried booting into it, but it froze into a blank green/blue screen—probably due to color blindness. The DVD worked fine on another older machine in the house. I thought about removing the drive and installing KDE on another system, which succeeded, but not here. Then I considered using the AOMI (SP) rescue USB drive. I doubted it would work for restoring Windows backups—it’s probably Windows PE. I believe if this was on a machine with no operating system installed, the drive wouldn’t accept any OS. Also, Windows 11 has been running off time for a while, so that might be the issue.
Mobo works perfectly. When dual booting Windows with Linux, time discrepancies can occur. This happens because Windows and Linux handle time differently. You should either set Windows to use UTC or adjust Linux to use RTC. If your desktop freezes, press Ctrl + Alt + F2 (or any key like F12). This will close the GUI and open the terminal. Enter your username and password then execute this command: journalctl -b -p 0..3. It will filter the boot logs and show any errors, helping you identify issues with the desktop environment.
It appears your GPU is handling everything. My CPU doesn’t have an INT, and the rescue boot disk worked—probably Windows PE. The system runs KDE hardware, and nothing on USB, DVD, or SSD seems faulty. A colleague from Cornell confirmed this over the phone. I got into a game today and my PC still boots normally, though it only shows the Windows drive. The Windows partition works with both SATA cables, but not the Linux one. When I try to boot, it just shows the Windows drive. What tool would help diagnose the issue? It seems the machine is running fine otherwise, except for this hardware problem.
