psu typically includes safeguards, particularly in premium models. I thought you hit a minor safeguard, which is good news—thank you! I’ve made the same error just to feel reassured.

The USB port was indeed a Type C, which should function properly. It might not support Thunderbolt, but it should provide at least basic USB functionality. It’s important to avoid short circuits unless there are other factors involved. Design intended this behavior, so such issues shouldn’t occur.

USB A, B, and C are types of connectors, while Thunderbolt is a communication standard. They share the same cable and connections.

I'm finding a Type C connector stuck inside a Type A port. In reality, it seems TB is mostly available in Type C now.

Yes, the old Thunderbolt cable was miniDP, which meant it had just one option.
