I changed my motherboard BIOS via USB (without the CPU) and left it running overnight. I’m concerned the board might fail if I disconnect the USB later. Can I stop the ongoing BIOS update safely? I’m not confident about my actions so far.

It requires just a short time, which means it’s either done or not yet. Test it out.

The board is easily recognizable through a visible LED indicator, either flashing or steady, which signals its functionality.

It's an MSI MPG X570S with Wi-Fi enabled. I changed the BIOS to support a Ryzen 7 5700X. It keeps flashing. I left it on overnight. Updated on February 2, 2023 by BruhMyChips Missing information.

It keeps flashing, making it hard to tell if it worked or not.

Won't know until you try. There isn't anything else you can do at this point anyway.

According to @Kilrah, a BIOS update merely requires a short time. If it remains in the "updating" state, it likely didn't complete successfully.

your gb2 model runs smoothly with dual bios—just restart it. after shutdown, take out the usb to prevent any update cycles. since it's a gigabyte device, you likely have a dedicated usb port for bios updates, which matches what your board has on the back.

Make sure the CPU fits into its socket. Install the cooler and apply thermal paste, then attempt the BIOS update once more.

Possibly but many of the newer AMD boards support updates without a CPU installed. Your board seems to be relatively new, so it should handle the update fine. Check the manual to confirm if a specific USB port is needed at the back. As mentioned, I have this unit and it’s white. If you already have the CPU installed, just go to BIOS, select the drive, and updates will work properly. I’m a bit puzzled though—since the X570S came out after the 5700X, the S series was the improved line, and those boards eliminated the small chipset fans that caused noise complaints?
