You can skip reinstalling Windows if you keep your 8.1 installation intact, but moving key files to a second HDD and installing on the main drive is a safer approach.

I've handled this multiple times without problems. Windows 8 does a great job identifying the drivers. Still, it's wise to do it just in case.
