Hello, welcome to the forum! I’m here to assist you. I recently assembled a new PC using refurbished components. The CPU is an Xeon E3-1245 V3, the motherboard has multiple RAM sticks available, and the GPU is a GTX 630. The power supply uses a 700W Aero-style unit—its model number isn’t clear right now, but it appears to be in good condition.

Here’s a brief background on each part: I purchased the CPU and used the motherboard on eBay. For RAM, I bought a set of four 8GB Hynix HMT31GR7CFR4C-PB T8 modules, but encountered an issue where the Hynix kit didn’t recognize my RAM (error code “RAM not detected”). I’m fairly experienced with building PCs, but I’m struggling to resolve this problem. My workstation/server motherboards are well-maintained, and all other components—PSU, GPU, and alternative RAM—are functioning properly in other systems. I’ve rebuilt the PC twice, reset everything, and checked the CMOS, yet it still doesn’t boot.

A few things are puzzling: the motherboard has many jumpers, and I’m unsure what each does. I tested disabling the built-in VGA, but no video output appeared. I also tried two working monitors and cables connected to the onboard VGA and GPU. The RAM error only appears with the eBay modules, not with other RAM types. It seems the system detects incompatible RAM but doesn’t respond.

Could someone with experience help me identify what’s wrong? Any obvious tips would be greatly appreciated!

It looks like the components you mentioned function well with the MSI gaming 3 h97. It seems the issue might relate more to the Asus P9D-V model itself rather than Workstation MBs or a particular setup. You're still unsure about any special steps for workstation-based configurations.

They likely require customized RAM, not just standard unbuffered ECC, but maybe some particular SKUs. Usually, for these server components, it’s simpler to obtain a functional configuration first, and then attempt upgrades using the same SKU parts.

Sorry, I need to be more precise. The eBay RAM is RD Immel. The Samsung RAM I checked earlier was an M378b5773ch0-ch9 unit. With the MSI MB I can verify everything functions properly. The Asus MB isn’t showing any activity or video output. As mentioned, the eBay RD Immel displayed a beep code (RAM Error). After installing the UDIMM, no beep code appears.

It depends on your specific needs and the compatibility details provided. Checking the list carefully can help determine if adding more RAM is feasible.

It’s a solid beginning. With built-in graphics, it’s much simpler to start.

I believe I should clear everything out again. Spending over 25€ on a single 8GB DIMM isn't justified for this setup. Appreciate the advice!
