I'm testing an ASUS ROG Crosshair VII X470 Wifi board with a Nvidia 1080 and a Samsung 970 Pro 1TB NVMe M.2 drive. Recently, some online guides suggest pairing the PCI E 16X slot with the Samsung NVMe via AUTO LINK settings set to Gen 3 for improved performance. The instructions seem unclear. Your PCIe version should likely be Gen3 since your graphics card supports it. You can verify this using the gpuz utility. Even though you're on mobile, there are steps to follow.
