Hello, here are the details of what I tried: CPU model Ryzen 5 2600, motherboard MSI B450M Pro-VDH Plus, cooler Arctic 34 esports, power supply EVGA GQ750W. I was testing safe overclock settings with a new cooler, achieving 1.35V and 4.1GHz. To keep idle temps down and reduce power draw, I considered adding an offset. Interestingly, the 0V offset is about 1.4V, while my past Gigabyte experience said it should be around 1.1V, so I added +0.25V. When booting, fans spiked to 100%, which triggered Prime95 and caused temps near 100°C—far above normal 65°C under load. The CPU ran at 1.79V, and I shut it down immediately. After restarting, temperatures stabilized around 95°C, and Prime95 completed in about a minute. I re-applied the override voltage, and at 4.1GHz it worked fine, suggesting the issue was resolved. I’m still unsure why idle power stayed between 30-33W despite these changes. I attempted to disable PBO, but it didn’t help. Could this mean my offset adjustment wasn’t effective, or should I try Pstates?

Hello, Did you observe VID instead of core voltage? What method did you use to track the voltage with Prime 95?

Checked both CPU-Z and Msi afterburner; core voltage was definitely correct.

This might be due to a throttling mechanism I didn't notice. I haven't verified the clock speed yet.

I don't require offset on my CPU; I applied it only to frequency and not voltage. It's odd that a +0.25V would jump to 1.79V instead of the expected 1.65V. That exceeds the usual limit, as you shouldn't go above 1.5V. 1.45V is actually the safe upper bound.

I don't require offset on my CPU; I applied it only to frequency and not voltage. It's odd that a +0.25V would jump to 1.79V instead of the expected 1.65V. That exceeds the usual limit, as you shouldn't go above 1.5V. 1.45V is actually the safe upper bound.

I stick to a Ryzen balanced plan and kept under 1.375V, following advice from a Reddit user about CPU longevity. I set it at 1.35V because the LLC circuit would naturally rise slightly to that range. Personally, I don’t want an overclock. Running everything on auto feels great after the cooler swap, with all cores handling 3775-3825MHz under load and 3900MHz during games. That performance means no need for any overclocking at all—GTX1650Super works perfectly without it.

Other options like core, cache, bus or ring also matter. They usually need less voltage and typically run around 0.1 or 0.2 GHz under your OC (my OC is at 5GHz while uncore is at 4.9GHz). But I'm not completely sure what you're referring to — see the Wikipedia page for more details. If you're satisfied, stick with it; don't push your CPU unless you really notice the gains.
