I powered on my PC and it started up correctly, but during the initial loading into Windows, right after the waiting message appeared, the screen turned black with just the mouse cursor visible. It remained in that state for roughly two minutes before the operating system finally loaded. This occurred twice consecutively at the same moment, which naturally made me anxious about potential issues. I also observed that Windows Update was displaying an update, but the “Check for updates” window became unresponsive. Could this stuck update be responsible for the black screen or for the delayed loading?

Execute the command to check for corruption and restore health. It will report any issues found. Additionally, it will display the last time the operation was initiated.

I think it took about 2-3 minutes. On the third attempt, rather than shutting the PC down entirely and restarting it, I just restarted it. That worked—Windows finally applied the update, which had been stuck before. It then asked for another restart to finish, and everything went smoothly. After that, I powered off the PC and left it on for two hours. Then I turned it back on to check if it would freeze, and it booted normally without any problems. It even started up instantly without a black screen at first. What do you think? Was the stuck update the reason?

If the PC shows that black screen message, try pressing Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager. Look for Explorer in the list and restart it. If Explorer isn’t there, use the "Run Program" button and type "explorer.exe." This should launch the full Explorer window so you can troubleshoot. From there, check for updates—this issue usually fixes itself after an update.
