Hey, first time posting in the forum. Not sure if this is a software or hardware question. Yesterday I wiped my old windows laptop (Zenbook, i5 8250u, 16gb ram) to mess around with Ubuntu. I successfully created a local network share which works great with my mac, which is super cool. However, anywhere from 5-30min after starting the system, its internal fan will for no reason ramp up to 100% even though its not currently active, and is ice cold to the touch. Fan worked fine the 4 years I used the latop on Windows. Anyone else experience this? Any recommendations?

It seems the sensor data might not be working correctly. Check if the temperature reading is showing properly. Launch a terminal and type "sensors" to verify. Observe the output right after startup and again when the fan starts up. (This should function in Ubuntu, though I haven't used it recently.)

Ensure you add the package "lm-sensors" via the official repository link.

I received lm-sensors again, but this time it took longer (around an hour). The temperatures shown are close to ambient (23–26°C). Yet the CPU fan is spinning at an extremely high speed as reported by the ASUS-ISA-0000 Adapter: CPU fan at 25500 RPM.
