Hi, I’m thinking about upgrading my system. Right now I have a 5820K i7 with LGA 2011 v3 socket. I’m considering five choices, maybe a sixth one. I like Intel, I know AMD is quicker but cheaper, and I’m not interested in that. My main aim is a big speed boost—especially for gaming on a 4K screen and with my 144Hz monitor. I’m also using an 2080 Ti NVIDIA GPU and running virtual machines from my PC.

I’m looking at these options:
1. Intel 6950X i7 same socket
2. Intel Xeon Xeon E5 2699 v4
3. Intel Ultra 285K
4. Core i9 13900K
5. Older Alder Lake model (around 12900KS)

I’m concerned about overheating and oxidation, so I want something reliable. My PSU is Seasonic 1000W Titanium, with 32GB DDR4 RAM and a Noctua CPU cooler.

What advice do you have?

What is your budget? Your selection of parts looks quite varied.

For Intel Core Ultra you need DDR 5 memory, which means your existing 32GB DDR 4 won't work. There are stability problems with top-end Raptor Lake CPUs, but these have been fixed by BIOS and microcode updates. So Option 5 is a more reliable choice compared to 4. Additionally, there are solid AMD options available.
