The time machine is not working after the Mojave update.
I discovered a fix for my issue... my Time Machine could only save up to roughly 35 GB before stopping. Over time I received a 'Backup fail message.' I've tried every recommendation and none resolved the problem. It appears to be a Mojave-specific problem, not a conflict with third-party software as suggested by an Apple representative. The same issue shows up in Safe Mode, and after removing the third-party app recommended by the rep, I reformatted my external drive. Now it works again, albeit a bit slower. This is frustrating because I lost all my previous backups.
I’ve heard from users on the Apple Support forums recently that using the Extended Journaled Case Sensative resolved the issue. However, this fix doesn’t solve the core problem of Time Machine not updating its ability to reveal or enforce normal Extended Journaled functionality. It also doesn’t address the need for dynamic detection tailored to individual user scenarios. I’ll try it once I’m back home.
The issue lies in relying entirely on the closed Apple environment. Apple frequently releases updates that break existing systems, leaving you dependent for any solutions. If you're strategic, avoid using magical machines or similar tools and instead boot into Clonezilla from a live USB to create a full backup of your data.
Time machine offers a powerful set of useful tools and impressive capabilities.
It sounds like you're referring to a tool that automatically creates backups of your modified files every hour.
Linux offers a wide range of possibilities. It would be wise to explore topics like this yourself before diving in, as it only took a short time: https://www.ostechnix.com/cronopete-appl...one-linux/ I’m not trying to be rude, but asking such questions without searching first feels a bit lazy—even if it’s just to challenge your stance online. It’s simply a habit of good writing and research. Speaking from experience as both a former Linux user and a current Mac user, I find this valuable.
