The thunderbolt device unexpectedly vanished from one machine...
This appears to be an unusual situation... I've been using a G-Drive SanDisk Extreme Pro 500Gb with my computer for nearly a year without any issues in the Thunderbolt ports on the back of my PC. Earlier this year, I purchased a CalDigit TS4 and connected it to that port for a few months without any problems either. Today, however, when I started my computer, the drive didn't appear in the Devices and Drives list. The CalDigit functions properly with all my devices except the hard drive, so when I tried connecting the drive directly to the back port, nothing happened (it made the usual plug-in sound). I then verified two laptops that support Thunderbolt and the drive was recognized immediately, indicating the issue likely lies with the computer itself. I checked my BIOS to rule out any disabled settings, and everything seemed to be enabled correctly. Device Manager showed no errors for "RAID Controller" or "Unknown Device," so I wasn't certain it was the cause. I also attached the Thunderbolt Control Center information, which confirmed both drives were recognized. Here are some observations: It worked fine on Friday and still does on my two laptops. It shows up in Thunderbolt Control Center, appears as a device under "Safely Remove Hardware" (not a drive), and shows in Disk Management. I've verified the Thunderbolt BIOS settings were all enabled. Booting in Safe Mode produced similar results—still not functional. Over the weekend, I had to turn Secure Boot on to play Faceit (a compatibility tool for CS2). I reverted that change and removed Faceit; it didn't resolve the problem. I powered off my computer and unplugged everything for 15 minutes. I'm currently stuck trying to figure this out, having spent hours searching online. I can manage without the drive but a major reason I built this system was its Thunderbolt capabilities. I just noticed the issue and you were absolutely right. I didn’t realize it was a Mac drive with HFS+ and it ended up unmounted. After remounting, everything worked fine. Thanks!
