We own two iMacs. One runs Windows 7 through Bootcamp, and I removed the original key with a third-party tool before installing it on my other iMac. It worked perfectly as a real Windows version. I’m wondering if both devices share the same motherboard—does that matter? I’m planning a new build soon and want a Windows copy. If I use the same key on a different motherboard, will it still function there? Or will it fail entirely? I’m worried about getting scammed and want a legitimate solution. I prefer official methods over software swapping because of the risks involved.
You could simply apply the same license you used for your Imacs. Microsoft now monitors Windows 8 and 10 keys only.
so you are using the upgrade key for win 10 from one of the imacs to use on your new build? it should work, but i dont have experience with that but it should still work because its a completely different key. and worse case it will let you run the os and just say its not able to activate but you would then get enough time to get a OEM win 10 key for 80ish USD
That’s the product key, but since Windows 10 is free to upgrade, the key you mentioned from the earlier post turns into an upgrade key. It’s entirely different from the Windows 7 version you had.
