Your HP 520 currently has a 512MB RAM stick with 2GB capacity. The upgrade guide notes it supports up to 2GB, but you’re considering using two 2GB sticks. This could work if the laptop supports dual modules, but it may not be compatible or stable. Using two sticks might cause conflicts or performance issues. Check your specific model’s compatibility before proceeding.

There are a couple of possibilities. It could simply not be posted. The post will display all memory, but only utilize one of the sticks. It’s possible it might still function well with more memory, though that is unlikely.

It really varies, there are several options—sometimes it functions well with more than the specified RAM. Many systems support additional RAM beyond what's listed, and the amount available was either the maximum tested or what was accessible at that time. -It won't be able to proceed. -I'm restricted to the maximum rated capacity.

It should work just fine. I've seen similar laptops before and they didn't have problems exceeding the manufacturer's recommendations. Since you're paying a premium for DDR2 RAM, it seems like a good bet.

It depends on the laptop's configuration; some models use both RAM sticks while others operate with a single stick.

Occasionally, when makers set the highest supported level, they might just refer to what's currently supported. In such situations, as long as it meets the same requirements, exceeding capacities within that range should be fine.
