Hey there! I'm just starting out with this issue and really need some guidance. I'm trying to figure it out, but it's proving quite challenging. We're considering initiating an RMA process and replacing parts until the problem gets resolved. This could turn into a long discussion, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I've been working with a friend who built his first PC (discussing on Discord) and it functioned perfectly for a week. Once he left the machine running, it went dark. After turning it off, I checked the 5070 Ti display—no output at all. We tried several fixes: resetting CMOS, adjusting PCIe speed settings, disabling the resize bar, using different RTX models, and even testing on another system. The BIOS update from version 1022 to 1079 helped the top slot work, but the bottom slot still wouldn't power on.
Other attempts included running a Memtest, swapping in an older Nvidia driver, and changing TPM settings. The repair shop we visited confirmed the power supply passed tests and ran diagnostics, but they couldn't pinpoint the issue. They suggested trying another GPU or a different motherboard, though they didn’t have the tools to test everything locally.
Given the delays and lack of progress, I’m leaning toward submitting an RMA for the motherboard. Thanks for all your support and insights!
It might be an issue with incompatible combinations involving B850 boards and the 5070 Ti. A Reddit discussion seemed relevant, though it lacked a picture in the top PCIe slot until a BIOS update. Consider testing the 5070 Ti on another B850 motherboard to see if the problem persists.
That is one theory from the repair shop as well and one that I haven't brushed completely off my self. I went with a B850 motherboard due to PCIE 5.0 and future GPU upgrade down the line. I would like to limit the amount of RMA and components used if possible. We dont have another B850 on hand. We can RMA the one we have now and get another B850 board to give it a try of course. But I am also tempted to just get a B650 motherboard at this point. I dont see why the PC would suddenly develop this restarting issue after updating the BIOS. Thank you!
PBO is inactive and XMP/EXPO has been attempted intermittently.
Alright well there goes my options. When I have random reboots is always a funky CO undervolt or RAM overclock. Hope its not one of those unfortunate situations where the hardware just doesn't want to play nice together for no apparent reason. I suppose you could try other BIOSes than the two you've used so far.
The power supply might still raise concerns, it's hard to say for sure. If issues arise when under load, you'll likely need to investigate further.
It's quite unusual, but you're considering a B650 motherboard now. You mentioned experimenting with XMP/EXPO settings and using one hard drive. The repair shop also added another power supply, yet performance issues persisted.
