Hey there! A good start would be checking the basic connections and seeing if the power is stable. You could also try running a memory test and checking the hard drive health. Those steps might help before deciding on more advanced fixes.

Does the system include more than one storage device connected? (Could be a simple misunderstanding—does a laptop really support multiple drives?) Also, is the boot device configured correctly in the BIOS?

Consider the most dangerous scenario. What would be lost if things go wrong? Try switching to a fresh drive and using his old one as a backup, then check what remains. When the registry is corrupted this way, fixing it often proves far harder than simply reinstalling Windows or replacing the drive (though that depends on whether the drive itself is the problem).

lol.laptop is completely broken. HD Sentinel is seeing many bad sectors and the HDD health is only 10%. I'm currently running an HD Tune test; my CPU drops to 76°C when idle, and it's an old i3-3120m. Another problem is that it's a Toshiba Satellite, which I know tends to have poor design—especially with hinge issues. I've already told the manufacturer there’s no point in fixing this old machine. I’m planning to install a new OS on the damaged HDD, but I’m not sure it will work.
