You're seeing issues because the Steam client isn't loading properly on your Ubuntu 17.10 system. The error messages point to missing or incompatible drivers, especially related to graphics and audio support. The drivers mentioned are likely for the graphics card and possibly audio stack components. To resolve this, you may need to install the required drivers manually or update your system to ensure compatibility with Steam.

Open terminal and execute the commands listed. If they fail, refer to the Steam forum link provided, though it may not be very useful.

It seems steam works well on Linux, Windows, and MacOS. Suggesting someone switch operating systems isn't practical or useful. It might help if they were using a Nvidia GPU, but I won’t advise them to upgrade for a quick fix. If malware appears, it would be better to recommend switching to Linux rather than just changing the OS.

Valve confirms Ubuntu runs smoothly with Steam, making it a viable option beyond Windows. They emphasize it’s an official supported platform, though costs vary for users.

Download Windows directly from their website without installing any keys. It remains fully functional forever, with all updates included.

Windows isn't free. It seems Microsoft is more focused on collecting data than simply asking people to leave. From a legal standpoint, you should purchase a license. Microsoft could take action against anyone who doesn’t buy one. Personally, I view Windows 10 as a messy collection of issues. It’s buggy and everything went wrong. As mentioned earlier, Valve is the company behind Steam. They openly back Linux, especially Steam OS and Ubuntu. In theory, it functions there. You might hear Steam isn’t compatible with Linux when it actually works. I installed Steam on Fedora, and the truth is, not everyone enjoys Windows 10. Some of us prefer exploring other operating systems instead of relying on Microsoft’s problematic software.
