My configuration: Ryzen 5 3600 Gigabyte b450m DS3H v1, HyperX 2x8 GB 3000MHz, Corsair v550 RX 570 4GB. I recently assembled a PC and upon launch, the motherboard displays “Memory PMU training error in slot dd4_2.” In Windows 11, only 8 GB appear in Task Manager. Nonfunctioning slots are indicated by red arrows. The same issue occurs with another board—Gigabyte B350m DS3H, showing the same problem, even in Windows 11, which results in a black screen and no startup. Changing RAM order doesn’t resolve it, though one stick fits in either ddr_1 or ddr_3 slot. What might be causing this?

The DIMMs function together on the board simultaneously or sequentially. Have you checked filling the empty slots that aren't highlighted by red arrows?

they claim just a couple of the slots function properly, and the red-marked ones are faulty. Filling only those two slots forces the memory into single-channel operation, which isn't ideal.

Have you attempted resetting the CMOS? A relevant tip from a 2020 discussion offers this solution: “You might have faulty RAM. Start by removing it, clean the contacts with a highly concentrated alcohol (under 70% will leave residue) and replace it. While doing so, test the modules in various slots; if the issue shifts to a different location, the original stick is defective and you should return it for replacement.” If the new RAM fails, check the motherboard slot or CPU pin functionality. Consider using compressed air to clean the CPU socket. You may need to return the motherboard if necessary. Identifying factors and conducting tests individually are crucial.

Sure, I understand. I placed two memory modules in adjacent slots (ddr4_1 and ddr4_2), and it functions properly in a single channel, but when using ddr_3 or ddr_4 in Windows 11, it fails to recognize the setup.

I noticed your post and went through the details. It seems the issue might be consistent across different boards, even though you're testing with various RAM sticks. Make sure the slots are clean and properly seated, and verify the RAM is correctly installed in each slot.

Yes, a malfunctioning memory controller in the CPU could cause issues.

It seems to be a CPU concern. The CPU might not be set up properly or could have dead memory slots. Consider re-seating the CPU.

It seems the issue is likely with the CPU itself. I’d consider re-seating it, as Vishera recommended, and also give the CPU socket a thorough clean to eliminate any debris or residue.
