Whenever I try to save a file in a program and go to the “save as” dialog, I end up freezing my PC for a few seconds to minutes. When I pick any other option, it functions normally, even if I choose “my PC” and select the desktop folder. I've installed Windows three times on two different SSDs and still faced this issue. My system runs Windows 10 with AMD 3600X, AORUS X570 Elite, a WD Black SN750 500GB, 16GB 3200 CL15 RAM, and RTX 2070 graphics. I'm also using the latest BIOS and chipset version. Is there a solution to this problem?

Can you launch Resource Monitor on Windows to identify performance issues? The Performance section in Task Manager can also reveal potential bottlenecks. Are there any additional storage devices connected to your system besides the SSD?

My drive is dedicated for gaming but most of my software runs on the SSD while I keep my usual programs on the HDD. The resource monitor shows no changes during file saves, and there are no unusual usage spikes.

It's likely because I'm experiencing a comparable problem at home with my equipment. When a lot of old storage is present, opening an explorer window can slow things down since Windows interacts with those devices. Let's rule out other causes. Disconnect everything from the computer—even the gaming HDD—and test saving again. It could be that the HDD has reached the end of its life and needs replacement.

A while has gone by since I moved all the hard drives out. The problem still continues...
