The system became unstable after installing a new power supply unit.
Hello there. I shared a thread about Starfield and Cyberpunk crashing frequently, and the overclocked overdrives resolved the issue.
mobo: asus rog strix z790 f
cpu: intel i7 13700k
gpu: msi ventus 3x 4080 oc edition
ram: corsair ddr5 2x16 GB 6000 mhz
psu: asus rog strix 1000w aura edition ATX 3.0
the problem began with the new PSU, before I had a 5-year-old Corsair RM750x. My CPU was AI overclocked with ASUS BIOS and XMP enabled for my RAM. The graphics card was overclocked using MSI Afterburner. Despite this, I experienced no issues, zero lag, and no BSODs. I assumed a 1000w PSU would suffice, so I installed it and the issue started.
I’m wondering if a faulty PSU is the cause, or if starting/stability problems persist when overclocking with the same settings. Any advice?
Verify all connections from the PSU to every component, particularly the motherboard, are tight and secure. I would reset CMOS, ensure the BIOS is current, then attempt AI overclock again once any pending BIOS updates are applied. After flashing the BIOS to the latest version, clear the CMOS if there were any outstanding updates.
I updated BIOS from manufacturers latest release. But didnt clear CMOS as you said. I think there is a clear CMOS button at my motherboard. I'll try it.
If that fails, can we hold new psu responsible for this problem?
It looks like both my PSU and RAM were fine. After many attempts at fixing it, Intel confirmed the issue. They suggested a microcode failure or similar problem that eventually led to processor failures. Once I contacted customer service, they provided a replacement for my processor. That was quite a hassle.
