Hello everyone, considering an upgrade and wondering if it’s a good idea. You currently have an 8700k with 32GB of 3000MHz RAM and a 3080 FE. Someone is looking at a Ryzen 5600X with 3600MHz RAM. Is the upgrade worth it? You’re mainly into gaming, not productivity. Will there really be a noticeable improvement? Thanks, Louis.
If there were another GPU besides the 3080, I’d decline. But with the 3080 you’re probably more CPU-dependent. Keep an eye on your CPU and GPU performance in games; if the GPU usage dips below 95% for a moment, consider upgrading to a 5600X. Alternatively, you could stick with the current setup and try boosting it slightly to reach around 3200MHz. If memory wasn’t available, aim for 3600MHz—but since you have it, check if you can push it closer to the optimal frequency for your Ryzen.

The 8700K remains a strong choice for gaming. Unless you're playing at high resolutions or with lower settings, the performance difference won't be noticeable, even with a 3080. I'd prefer to save for a bigger upgrade like the 5900X, hold off on a new CPU, or upgrade your display if needed.
I test most titles with a 32" 1440p 144hz screen. Doom Eternal looks great in Ultra Nightmare mode. Many games I see have the GPU fully loaded while the CPU stays under 100%. Usually it's around 40-60%, except Flight Sim. Thanks for the feedback! It might be better to keep my 8700k for a little more savings, haha.
