Hey there, I recently purchased an ORICO M2PV-C3 SSD case and installed a functioning NVMe drive inside. When connecting it to my PC via USB, the system recognizes it briefly—about 10 to 15 seconds—before displaying a “drive cannot be recognized” message. If I link it to the high-speed 10Gbps USB port on my motherboard, Windows freezes completely and I’m compelled to power off the machine. The drive appears in Device Manager with a yellow warning icon. Curiously, it works well when connected to my phone via USB-C, my brother’s laptop using both USB-C and USB-A, and through my PC’s internal PCIe NVMe M.2 slot.

I’ve tried several fixes: reset Windows (keeping files safe), backed up around 50GB and ran benchmarks with crystaldiskmark8 before the issue resurfaced; reinstalled the newest Windows 11 update without success; disabled USB selective suspend; updated drivers through Device Manager; tested all USB ports on my PC—no results. I removed the SSD from the case, used just an empty cartridge, and it functioned properly. The problem only appears after a short insertion time.

Additional notes: the drive is formatted as exFAT, and it works with other USB devices in Windows. My PC accepts pen drives without trouble. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

It seems there are some driver-related problems, especially with the yellow triangle in Device Manager. Have you already updated the chipset and USB drivers on your motherboard? You could try a full driver update by downloading them from the manufacturer’s site and installing all necessary files—it might resolve the issue.

Could it function across different platforms? There might be a power-related problem causing the drive to exceed the enclosure's capacity.

It might be a hardware issue, and you could try replacing the part. I experienced this with my SSK NVME USB device—it worked briefly before disconnecting and then stopping completely. After replacement, it functioned normally. It seems like a manufacturing defect from another brand or product.

Thanks for the responses. After some research, I found that removing Asrock Polychrome RGB (v. 2.0.190) resolved my SSD issues. It's surprising how often these updates bring up unexpected problems. This program has been causing a lot of strange PC issues for me.
