Hey everyone, I just moved to Linux Mint and it’s been a bit tricky. Pycharm keeps crashing after installation—once it works, then later it just fails with an error message when I try to open it from the desktop or start menu. This has happened a couple of times in under three days, which is really confusing. I’m not sure what’s going on.

Do you have other IDE options in mind? I’ve used Visual Studio Code on Windows and Linux for Python and various tasks.

I don't really care, I appreciate how PyCharm appears and all its features.

I followed the steps from the tutorial, pulled out the archive, moved into various folders, and ran python.sh. That’s what I noticed, which might be the issue I’m facing.

It seems the installation method isn't ideal—it should appear in the software manager, available as both a native package and a Snap package.

It seems the Snap package isn't very user-friendly—only accessible via the terminal and lacking a desktop shortcut. The version from Software Manager has poor ratings, so I'll go ahead and try it despite that.

I don't like Snap either. Flatpaks aren't great, though they're not terrible. The native app in the Software Center should mirror the package you installed yourself, so it might just be review issues or bugs that have been fixed. Also, I haven't had any problems with menu or desktop shortcuts for Snap packages, but since Mint is known to avoid supporting Snap, it could be their decision.

The flatpack option is the default in Software Manager, and I don't see another version listed.

After setting up the flatpack PyCharm, everything seems to function properly. I noticed another version of it in the Start Menu with a different icon, but both are working well. Is this the Snap package from yesterday?
