The Skyrim quest is not functioning properly.

I was playing the quest "Taking Care of Business" and then instructed Brynjolf, which I did, and then told him to follow me. He went outside to Riften and just roamed around. If I tried to talk to him, he replied, "Hmm?" I returned to a previous save three times, but it didn't help. When I first spoke to him to finish the quest, it said I'd completed it, but then it wouldn't start the next one, "Loud and Clear." I'm not sure what to do now.

Enter Skyrim. Search for the quest details to understand the objectives. Then, utilize the terminal to progress the quest manually.

I wouldn't begin missions through the command line (it removes enjoyment), though it helps advance a quest past a failed level.

I really enjoy Skyrim, but it has some issues. It tends to be quite unstable, especially with all the mods I've added. A frequent problem I notice is NPCs appearing high up in the sky and then falling when I get closer. It's kind of funny rather than a big concern.

Check out the mods on NexusMods for Skyrim. The DLC is highly recommended as it enhances the game significantly.
