Hello everyone,
My desktop search bar has been a grey box for a few months now, and nothing shows up when I type. I can enter words, but it just displays an empty grey space. Have others experienced this issue? I've checked everything online—restarted the search, refreshed the feature, updated Windows, and run some CMD commands—but nothing helped. Any advice or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Attempt to fix the search bar. Some suggest using Microsoft Bing, which can be obtained from the Microsoft Store.

Open Task Manager, locate "File Explorer," click on it and restart it. This often resolves the issue.

I've attempted to fix the search bar, but I haven't checked if Bing is installed yet. Please let me know. Thanks!

hey just remembered this. IDK if you have a fix yet but WHEW BOY does Windows 11 have a ton of issues right now, this being one of them. afaik, turning off fast startup can fix a lot of issues (usually what i see from clients is keyboard/NICs not being detected) on Windows 11. Control Panel > Hardware & Sound > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do > Change settings that are currently unavailable > Uncheck "Turn on fast startup"

launch Task Manager, navigate to the "Details" tab, select any process, press the letter "S" on your keyboard (you should see "Start Menu Blah Blah"), then right-click and restart. Problem resolved—Windows 11 can be tricky sometimes.

Trey924, let me clarify—I didn’t catch the part about it being consistent for a month. My fix is tailored just for my situation, though it sometimes throws errors. I guess it probably doesn’t work for you. Feel free to give it a shot; maybe the issue lies with the Start menu service or its settings. You can check your services and look for something like “Startmenu blah blah” to enable it.
