Something in my pc has been bugging me since I built it. I changed my motherboard recently as one of the sockets on the old one broke. When I installed the new one though, I didnt fully tighten the case standoffs. One of the case standoffs now spins when I spin the screw. I cant screw it in more or remove it. I just left it at first, but I would like to be able to retighten the standoff, but I cant do that as I cant remove the screw. Does anyone know how I can do that? If I screw more, or loosen it a medium volume ping just happens as the case standoff rubs on the board a little.

Remove the motherboard from the case, then use pliers to grab the standoff and unscrew.

I'm having trouble taking it off. I need to take out the screw that secures the board in place to remove the standoff, but it won't budge.

I can't physically reach the stand-off with needle nose pliers.

Take off every other screw on the motherboard, then take the board out. If the standoff gets stuck, turn the screw to loosen it.

I discovered a method to handle it. I noticed the standoff emerging from the back of my case. Using pliers, I secured the standoffs with it. From the front of the PC, I removed the screw while holding the standoff. I chose not to reinsert a screw if possible; it’s already positioned at the bottom, so it should be okay.

I experienced your suffering... it occurred to me long ago.
