Hello everyone, I recently purchased a 3440x1440 display and am facing some difficulties. Initially, my GPU, a 980TI, doesn’t always power up properly at startup—it just fails to activate. I have to repeatedly try before anything appears. I’m used to this situation. My primary operating system is Kubuntu, but I also have a Windows partition on another drive. After connecting the new monitor, even when the GPU starts, I can’t boot into Kubuntu. The system shows kernel messages, but KDE doesn’t appear until I press F11, and then the display stays black. I managed to get it working once, but I’m not sure if I actually booted into Linux on that monitor or if the OS was already running when I swapped. Additionally, I don’t see a picture when I boot from a USB stick. Neither SystemRescue (Linux) nor a Windows installer is helping me. Could anyone have encountered similar issues with older GPUs and 3440x1440 resolutions? It seems like a driver problem might be involved. Also, the PC is in another room, and the DP cable is about 7 to 10 meters away—maybe that’s too far for the required bandwidth? I thought it would be enough since Windows works fine at 3440x1440 with 75Hz, but now it’s not.
The card controls the pixels, even though it was done in Linux and continues working smoothly in a Windows environment that's already set up.
