I rely on my laptop for gaming—though it's not my top choice, it functions—and I'm on a budget, so what options are there? Earlier I had a second screen with a 60Hz refresh rate, but now I own a newer model that supports 240Hz. When I try to set it to 240Hz, the display goes black and reverts to 144Hz, which is the setting I've kept for troubleshooting. If this helps, the exact model I have is the AOC C27G2Z (https://us.aoc.com/en-US/gaming/products...ors/c27g2z). The 144Hz still offers a big improvement over 60Hz, but I'm unsure why I was using 60Hz before. I'd like to take full advantage of the monitor's capabilities.
Do you have DisplayPort connected? Otherwise, HDMI works even with a 2.1 cable.
Your laptop's age and limited ports might restrict its ability to fully utilize your monitors. The single HDMI port and lack of a display port could be the main issues.
