I'm still struggling with this situation.
Rog maximus x hero
Intel i7-8700k
Gtx 1070 gigabyte X2 in sli (boo)
Corsair cv650 80 plus
32gb ram
This PC was assembled about a year ago using mostly new parts. The CPU and graphics cards were second-hand, though.
It has been running smoothly until recently, when it suddenly made a loud noise like a fuse blowing and shut down.
I assumed it was dead, but it restarted right away and appears to be okay.
I’m curious about the reason behind this event.
I checked the Device Manager for any issues, but everything seems normal. I turned it off and searched for electrical damage, but found nothing visible.
The only clue is on the graphics cards: the fans spin only on the top card, and two-thirds of them are barely spinning when demand increases.
Qcode on the motherboard displays "40," which seems fine.
Event Viewer shows a power-off event from the process C:\Windows\System32\RuntimeBroker.exe (DESKTOP) for user Desktop\09fos, with no clear reason or error code.
The application-specific permission settings don’t allow Local Launch for the COM Server app, and security restrictions are blocking access to certain services.
This doesn’t seem to be a typical issue, but I see many errors related to NVIDIA and other components.
Is there a specific fault code or troubleshooting guide I should follow? I’d prefer not to face another problem.
Absolutely terrifying situation here. This shouldn't have happened with this PSU at all—especially since these are low-cost, group-regulated units meant for basic PCs. I wouldn't have chosen a GTX 1070 for this. And considering you've already faced major power problems with this PSU, it's no longer reliable for anything serious.
