The same random account keeps showing up on your PC despite deletions.
I recently set up a gaming PC and have been fine with it. However, I've recently spotted an unfamiliar local account that isn’t mine—I didn’t create it, and no one else has done so on my machine. I’ve tried deleting it multiple times using various methods, but it always reappears. The account’s name is odd—“Dan Melburne”—and it doesn’t have any strange or misleading labels. I haven’t seen any unusual activity from my side, and everything on my system runs smoothly. Still, this random intrusion bothers me, and I’m determined to resolve it permanently. As many know, Microsoft’s support for Windows is limited, and people facing similar issues often get little help. There are others dealing with the same problem who share their experiences online. My PC is solely for gaming, not for anything else, so I don’t want to reinstall everything. What advice can someone give me to permanently remove this account?
It seems like you might have run some suspicious software on your system. Have you recently added any antivirus tools?
I investigated further and identified the reason behind the account reappearing after deletion. Based on the antivirus software you use, there are options to set up a fake account. This dummy account acts as a decoy for anyone attempting to steal your device and log in, triggering an alert email about suspicious activity. As mentioned earlier, I recently installed a new PC. While retrieving components from my prebuilt Alienware R10, I accidentally activated default settings that generated a phantom account. This one persisted after deletion because the setting remained enabled, causing it to reappear each time the system restarts. If others face similar issues, refer to the original post for guidance on removing Windows accounts. If that doesn’t work and you encounter comparable problems, examine the programs you have installed. In this instance, it was simply the antivirus performing its intended function. Cheers.
