I recently purchased an ASUS Rog Zephyrus M16 with an i7 12700H, 16GB DDR5, and 3060. It performed well initially without any problems. About two weeks ago, while using it, the power button stopped working—no activity or charging indicators appeared. After disconnecting it and letting it rest for 30 minutes, it started up normally. However, if I connected the power supply while it was running, it would shut down instantly without restarting. There was no blue screen, just a sudden black screen. When I contacted ASUS, they were unhelpful. To resolve this, I replaced the power supply, which fixed the issue—now it boots when plugged in and operates normally. A week later, it’s showing similar issues: it won’t start when plugged in, but if I connect the new power supply, it stays on briefly before turning off. The keyboard RGB flashes unpredictably in various colors. I’m not sure what to do next, but I’m managing to fix desktop problems but less confident with laptops. Any advice would be appreciated.

I observed the device a little and noticed it has a removable battery. However, it needs you to open the case and remove the screws. That sounds correct? The unusual actions might signal a failing battery pack. If you can take out the battery, start it with the charger connected but empty. If the laptop behaves the same way, it’s likely the battery is bad. The issue could also stem from a faulty charging circuit. In that scenario, the problem probably lies with a motherboard part that’s broken, and fixing it might not be simple. Some repair services like Louis Rossmann might handle it, but since your laptop is covered under warranty for three years, I recommend checking for an RMA first. Hope this helps!

I verified with ASUS, and the warranty expired after one year. If the battery pack was defective, it’s possible the system operates normally without charging via USB-C when not connected.

It's a chance scenario. If the battery is nearly faulty, it might still hold enough power to start the laptop, but once the power adapter connects, it could overload the charge system and trigger a safety shutdown. This situation is rare but not impossible. Good luck!
