It's mostly used to start the system. However, keeping it on a different drive isn't ideal. For a brand-new setup, perform another installation while disconnecting all other drives.

I set up Windows about six months ago, so I believe I’ll keep it as is. In the future, I plan to reinstall Windows using an SSD-only setup. Thanks for your reply.

As long as the HDD remains connected, it should function properly and start up normally. There should be no noticeable impact on performance.

it'll make boot times dependant on the time the HDD needs to spool up, and ofcourse no HDD means no boot.. but past that it doesnt really matter.
