You're running your 5800X3D under solid conditions with a good cooling setup. The temperatures you're seeing are typical during demanding tasks like Minecraft with high render distances. The Cinebench R23 is stable around 76°C, which is acceptable for most use cases. The main concern is the OCCT test—it tends to spike quickly and stay high, but it's not uncommon for it to reach 90°C or more. If you want to avoid that long run, consider tweaking the fan speeds or checking if the case vents are working well. Overall, your setup looks solid for gaming and benchmarking.

It's quite intense. A 90 is really high. My setup handles it well—can run semi-passively on my PS120SE and FC140. I typically get around 152xx with my X3D, and temperatures stay between 63-65. Around 75-80 is comfortable.

yeah, as I said though the only test it gets to 90c with is OCCT small data set. Medium and large data sets it stays well below 90c, low 80's at worst but usually high 70's, and it does well enough in cinebench etc.

Minecraft demands significant CPU usage when you run a server. My setup behaves similarly, and I also use an NH-D15. With Fan Control, I keep it around 70% speed, but most games handle it fine. In-game noise stays much lower than that. For local play, faster fan speeds are necessary. If you prefer not to use PBO2 Tuner and set extreme values like -25 for all cores, you can adjust settings in BIOS—reduce PPT to 120, TDC to 80, EDC to 110.

yeah I ran that scenario with minecraft specifically because I know Bedrock edition in particular can and will use most of your CPU's resources if it feels like it needs to, and for 100+ chunk render distance it starts to put heavy load on 6 out of 8 cores and a moderate load on the remaining 2. Highest power draw I've managed to get in any of my games so far. Do you think the temps I outlined are relatively normal? I never get near danger temps in most benchmarks except one, and temps stay well below 80c during actual gaming, but I'm not sure. Used to have a R5 3600 so this thing is new to me.

It's all about running the PBO2 tuner on Windows, or using the built-in BIOS if available.

I understand your concerns about using third-party tools on a locked CPU. It's natural to worry about damaging the device or breaking the warranty.

It's straightforward and won't cause any issues. In fact, it should improve performance. For maximum stability, try -20 or -25; some users find -30 works well too. Follow the second menu steps for the best outcomes.

I might wait before proceeding if you believe my CPU temperatures are acceptable right now. I’m interested in knowing the performance numbers for your 5800X3D on the OCCT small dataset and Cinebench r23. Which cooler would you recommend?

Could I inquire about how long the 5800x3d model has been present in your setup? The readings appear elevated, though a recent installation might explain it. I’d place the machine on its side so the CPU remains flat while the cooler rests above it. Then gently unscrew the mounting bolts. Using the flat of my hand, apply light pressure to the cooler and twist slowly without lifting it. Ensure the adhesive is released slightly before tightening again, matching tension evenly across all screws. This would be my initial effort to adjust temperatures, taking roughly 4 to 5 minutes.
