Considering the release of the third generation and the upcoming fourth, the Ryzen 5 1600 remains a solid choice.

It seems it would fit well within a modest budget build. It doesn’t have immense power, but it’s certainly capable of handling games.

For those who can't afford the latest six-core processors, that's fine.

Earlier this time I would have agreed, yet a revised edition of the 1600 (referred to as 1600AF) is now available for $85, nearly matching the price of the 2600.

There are no faulty items, just poor pricing. A 1600 remains a solid CPU, though it varies by cost. Over $100? Not justified. Between $70 and $100? Good offer, but the 1600AF is superior. Under $70? Excellent value—you can likely upgrade it to 3.9 or 4.0 GHz and keep its future upgrade options.

Yes, AFAIK the top value for money. The original option isn't available unless you secure an exceptional price (such as 50USD) or if it's not feasible in your area.
